In 1979 the first musical performed in the newly opened Pilbeam Theatre was the Rockhampton Musical Union Choir’s presentation, The Sound of Music. This year RMUC will again present this show to Rockhampton.
Music theatre audiences (who will remember the choir’s production of Phantom of the Opera in 2019) will delight in the story of a young novice, Maria, who is sent by her convent as governess to the children of the widowed Captain Von Trapp. Romance and delightful interactions between Maria and the children ensue, set against the divisive background of Nazi occupied Austria.
Climb Every Mountain, Do Re Mi and My Favourite Things are some of the songs that ensure this musical’s undying popularity.
